Illinois - Ronald Reagan Boyhood Home National Historic Site

The Ronald Reagan Boyhood home is located in Dixon, Illinois, and is not part of the National Park Service system, or any other National system. It is, however, interested in that a future President lived there in the 1920s, starting with the time he was about 10.

The property consists of the boyhood home itself, and a visitor center made in the home next door. There is also a statue of Ronald Reagan set up next to the home. The Visitor Center has a film about Reagan's time in Dixon, and it was interesting to watch the information about him as he grew up.

The home was more interesting to me not because of who lived there, but because it had been restored to a slice of rural Americana from the 1920s. It was interesting to see how a typical family lived back in the day, the appliances they used, and the furniture and decorations they had.

The visit cost $5, and I felt that the money went to a good cause, but I probably will not make a return visit.
