Nevada - Valley of Fire State Park


Its the end of the semester for Matthew, and Angee has been out of classes for several weeks. They both want to get out of a city, so the three of us met up in Las Vegas for a few days of hiking. Because it is winter, the sun goes down early and we need to take advantage of all the daylight we can, so right after landing and meeting up in Vegas, (and after Hash House a Go Go, of course), we take off to explore the Valley of Fire State Park. I know this blog is mostly National Park service properties, but this park is amazing! Angee and I had been here before, and we knew it would be just the place to get our hiking excursion started. Besides, it was a good stopping point between Vegas and our vacation home-base of Kanab, Utah.

We started out at the park headquarters, where they said there was a trail, of course, we didn't see it, and Matt climbed to the highest point he could. Apparently, his stature on top of this outcropping was quite the sight, because on our way down, a few other visitors mentioned that it was pretty incredible to see.

We then went to hike in "Mouse's Tank", and the "White Domes Hike". On the Mouses' Tank hike, we saw a lot of big horned sheep on the cliffs. Again, Matt climbed off-trail, and some lady told us that it was dangerous, and "getting down is ALWAYS more difficult" and he should be careful. Yeah, we know. Angee had her camera along (I forgot mine), and she is an awesome photographer, so there are nice shots from this trip!
