Wisconsin - Nicolet National Forest

At the end of May, I took a trip to the Nicolet National Forest. This was not by FAR my first trip there, as my Dad bought a cabin there way back in the late 80's or early 90's. When dad passed, five of my siblings purchased the cabin. (John, Judy, Jerri, Jill and Jenni). Jerri has another place a bit down the road as well. This was just the first trip I had taken there since I have started my quest to visit a National Park Service property in every state, and to document the travels.

So, the weekend I was there, John, Judy, Jill, Mark, Tyler and Brock were also there. Jerri and Bill were at their cabin as well. The weekend consisted of all sorts of "up-north" type stuff. The first line of business was that Jill and her family worked to get the rails for the boathouse in - the water was COLD, but Jill put on her wetsuit and got it done. (With a bit of help from Tyler and Brock, with no wetsuits, and VERY cold.

There had been a ton of rain up there, and the river that flows between Franklin and Butternut Lakes was running fast. In most years, it is non-existent. There were thousands of tiny baby fish on the Butternut side of the road, so John made it his mission to "save" the fish and move them over to the Butternut side. Between the river and the cabin, John also spotted a LARGE rock that he just HAD to have, so he, Bill, Jerri and I tried to get it out of the ground and out of the woods. We didn't succeed, but we moved it to a place where John picked it up on a later trip. In addition to all the rain, there had been a bad storm that took down a bunch of trees at Jerri and Bill's place. We went over there one day and helped them burn and clean up a bunch of the debris. There was a bit of hiking as well, down the Franklin Lake Nature Trail. Other than all this typical "up north" stuff, we also did crafts.

Some of the Adirondack chairs that had been at the cabin were falling apart, we took a few of them and used the wood to create a sign for the driveway. There were a few other crafty type things done over the weekend too - I'm not sure what else to do up there.
