Pennsylvania - Independence National Historic Park
Philadelphia - our Nation's first capitol. This was a must visit location while on my solo road trip of the eastern states. There is an entire area in Philadelphia to explore, and so much information on the birth of the nation. The area is called the Independence National Historic Park. I started at the Liberty Bell, which has its own building. The building has a bunch of exhibits and short films on the bell, then at the end, the bell is displayed. You can see it from outside too, but that isn't as good.
Across the street from the Liberty Bell is Independence Hall and the Old City Hall. There is also a Visitor Center, a huge museum devoted to the Constitution, Independence Park, etc. Lots of history! One part that I didn't know before visiting was that the house that the Presidents lived in was right where the Liberty Bell building was. Both Washington and Adams lived there. In 2003, when they were building the LIberty bell building, they unearthed some of the original foundation of the President's house. They built an exhibit around it, which talked about the house, how it was run, the slaves that were there, who lived there, etc.
