New Jersey - Edwin B. Forsythe National Wildlife Refuge & New Jersey Pinelands National Preserve
If you have read any other part of my blog, you would know that I am trying to visit a National Park Service property in every state. I take road trips, and plan my itinerary based on which NPS properties are on the way. I had been on a solo road trip of the eastern states, and was going to go through New Jersey, so I decided to visit the Edwin B Forsyth National Wildlife Refuge. Its not an NPS property, but its operated by the National Fish and Wildlife Service, and is a beautiful place to visit.
The Edwin B Forsyth National Wildlife Refuge is on the New Jersey coast, and is also within an area of the New Jersey Pinelands National Preserve. There aren't really a whole lot of pines on the part of the property I saw - but whatever. The refuge has about a million bazzillion birds, and would be very interesting on a day that was NOT 45 degrees, rainy, with winds about 25 mph!! They had a nice visitor center that looked over the wetland area, and then an 8-mile drive through the wetlands to see the birds - this was perfect for such a miserable day. I could even open my window and enjoy it, when the wind was coming from the other side. I would definitely return on a nicer day.
