April 2024 Class - Glass Craft & Bead Expo - Las Vegas, NV
I signed up to attend the GCBE in Las Vegas, and showed up completely unprepared for what I was going to do! While at home, I decided to “make the most of my time” and I signed up for classes from early morning through the evening for four days straight. That was WAY too much! Thankfully, one of my classes was cancelled, and I was able to walk around the show floor – but next time, I will pace myself a bit more. There were over 300 classes available!
The first class I took was with Deb Crowley – and she was outstanding! I should look for more class opportunities with her. We made soft glass fish beads, which were AMAZING! Mine turned out pretty good! The next day was my first introduction to BORO, and I didn’t do so well, but it was interesting, and I learned a lot! All the other classes were good as well, but the flameworking is where I really should have concentrated my time, to learn new skills there rather than just an introduction to other types of glass work.
The classes I took were:
Enamel and Stringer Patterns on Soft Glass Beads (making fish)
Take the Mystery out of Marketing.
Glass Mold Making
Intro to Tubing (boro)
Class Casting
Fusing will Free Glass
Fun with UV Resin Creating Hearts
Snowflakes in Spring
Things I learned:
1. If I do this again – don’t take so many classes!
2. If I do this again – take the flameworking classes, and forget about UV, or stained, or things like that – focus on the things I really love to do.
3. Do not for any reason decide to enter the glass cutting competition again.
