California - Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark

While driving through the Mohave Desert, we saw a strange feature on the horizon. As we got closer, we couldn't figure out what it was, and decided to go take a look. Because of the flat and empty topography, we probably saw it from about 20 miles away.

We stopped at THE gas station (there is only one in the about 150 miles we traveled.) and asked the lady at the desk about it - she was only about a mile from it, and there is NOTHING else around - but she knew nothing about it. We drove over.

We got to a nice BLM site for the Amboy Crater, with a view deck, but we did not do the long hike to the crater. It was interesting, but we moved along rather quickly.
