July Class - Macaroons in Waukesha

I heard Matthew say in passing that he would like to learn how to make Macaroons, so of course I looked for a class! I found one, close to home at Chef Pam’s Kitchen in Waukesha. He and I signed up, and my friend from work came along too!

The three of us got there, and I was surprised to see the set up that they had. There were about 25 students, and we all sat in a U formation at long skinny tables, with the demonstration and the instructors inside the U. It worked well, and before long, we were on our way.

As we moved through the steps of making the cookies, it all seemed to go super smoothly – later, making them at home, we realized how much the instructors did for us that made a difference! The eggs need to be at room temperature, the amount of color to use before changing the texture of the cookie, the temperature, moving the cookies around while baking, etc etc. It seemed simple at the time but didn’t quite work as well at home when we tried it later.

During the class, we all made a dozen finished cookies, so we had to start with making 24 halves, then we filled them with filling and stuck them together. They all looked so pretty together – with all the different colors… they tasted great too!

I am looking forward to another class at Chef Pam’s kitchen – it was awesome.

A few of the key take away from the session:

1. It was awesome having Matt take the class with me.

2. Macaroon making is much more difficult than it should be.

3. I would definitely take another class at Chef Pam’s
