March Class - Community Pottery in Riverwest

I have given myself this goal of taking a class at least once a month, or at least learning a new thing. In March, I DID do the paper punching craft, but I really didn’t think that it counted, so at the end of the month, I was looking for something to do. I found a place called Yours Truly in the Riverwest neighborhood of Milwaukee.

Yours Truly was having a Spring Community Workshop – where you “make a pot, take a pot” I went to check it out. The premise was… you pay a small fee (I think it was $10), then they give you some clay and glazes, and a space to work.

You create something from that clay, and when you are done, you put it on the shelf for things to be fired. Then, you take a creation from the table of the things that had been created at the last Community Workshop. If you come back for the next time, you might be able to take the one you created home, but maybe someone already picked it up.

I created a little pot that was in the relative shape of a bunny, and I picked up a creation that was in the shape of a few mushrooms.

Cool idea! I’ll be back!

A few of the key take away from this:

1. People can be SO creative! This is a very small amount of clay, but the creations were varied, and some were quite good.

2. Some people came here every month for this, and there was a group of adult people that seemed to have it as a monthly outing.

3. There were also several kids with their parents – what a great way to spend an hour or so.
