May Class - Riesling Bottle Garden Art
I have been given a few old wine bottles, and there are a few that are a beautiful blue color. I wanted to make some sort of art out of them and searched online for some ideas. I found some cool ideas for garden art and set off to recreate something like that. It needed the bottle to be cut horizontally into rings. Matthew cut them on a tile saw. For some reason, the photos I took of Matthew cutting the wine bottle have disappeared. I will have to do this project again so that I can get more photos of that part of the project – it was impressive.
After that part of the project was complete, the rest was pretty simple. Clean, melt and then put it together. I like the results – they aren’t AWESOME, but they are nice, and I love the fact that recycled glass was used.
Things I learned:
The glass needs to be cut very slowly.
There is a lot of mess involved in the cutting process, and it needs to be rinsed a few times before actual cleaning happens.
Making rings of various sizes – by using the neck of the bottle – is a good idea for some variety.
