Moving into a Studio!!
After going to a total of three weeks of art camp this past summer, all of which were devoted to flameworking, I came home and bought a kiln, a better torch and a bunch of other flameworking equipment. To use the better torch, I needed to add oxygen to the propane, and this works so much better than the old hothead I had.
BUT – I can NOT do this in the house. And, working in the garage is not a great, safe or comfortable option either. I spent a few months trying to find a studio space to rent, and found one at The Springs in Waukesha. The space they had available is in the lower level (ok, the basement), but it has windows. It had been used for storage for a while, and the owner cleared it out and I took it over.
The first thing I had to do was CLEAN!! It was dusty and dirty and just needed a bit of work. I cleaned, painted the walls, added some shelves and tables, and moved in my workbench and glass. The space is small, and I have two windows that look over the river, and it works great for my needs.
I’m looking forward to making glass on a more regular basis now and leveling up my abilities along the way. The Springs does not have regular open hours but is open during the several Waukesha Art Crawl events. I will be doing demonstrations during those events.
