Ohio - Fallen Timbers Battlefield and Miamis Fort NHP

These two locations are located near Toledo Ohio in Maumee, Ohio. I didn’t know much about them before arriving, although I had heard of Fort Miami from previous sites that I had visited. After the Civil War, Fort Miami was built by the British, to try to limit westward expansion of the United States. The English had enlisted the help from several native tribes, as they had similar interests.

The Fallen Timbers Battlefield and the Fort were both locations of large battles fought in 1794, and again during the War of 1812. Both times, the battles were largely fought by Native American fighters, on behalf of the British, against the United States.

To learn more of the history of these two locations, check out the NPS site for the Fallen Timbers Battlefield and Miamis Fort National Historic Site.
