Road Trip Review - North East - NY, NJ, CT, VT, NH, ME, MA, and RI - 1200 Miles
In the summer of 2019, I was in the middle of a quest to visit a National Park Service property in every state, and I had a bit of vacation time to use, so I decided to go to the northeast part of the country, and visit several states that I hadn’t gotten to yet. Along the way, I learned a lot about the area, and how it was settled back in the day.
The places I visited were:
General Grant National Memorial – New York
Paterson Great Falls National Historic Park – New Jersey
Weir Farms National Historic Site – Connecticut
Springfield Armory National Historic Site – Massachusetts
Saint Gaudins National Historic Park – New Hampshire
Acadia National Park – Maine
Salem Maritime National Historic Site – Massachusetts
Saugus Iron Works National Historic Site – Massachusetts
Boston National Historic Park and the Freedom Trail – Massachusetts
Roger Williams National Memorial – Rhode Island
This was a solo road trip. I flew in and out of New York, rented a car and went from there. Each day was filled with a ton of traveling, history and learning, and the days went by very quickly.
One take away from this trip:
When you come upon something that you know you will never see again, take that opportunity, and experience it! In this case, I saw an Arlo Guthrie concert. I learned about it in the afternoon, bought a ticket and was there! Single tickets are easy to come by at the last minute!
