Road Trip Review - Wisconsin to Atlanta - 2087 miles
Late October 2020, and the state of Wisconsin is in a VERY bad place with COVID. I would like to say that it is the worst it will be, but I have no idea. About 30% of the people being tested are positive for COVID, compared to the CDC’s guide to try to be under 5%. Its dire.
I decided that for me, the risk of getting or spreading COVID while going on a road trip in my campervan was pretty low. I don’t come into contact with people except when getting groceries, and that would be no different on the road than at home. There is a bit more risk than at home, since I would be using public facilities at campgrounds, but it was a risk I was willing to take.
These were my stops:
Stones River National Battlefield – Tennessee
Russell Cave National Monument – Alabama
Little River Canyon National Preserve – Alabama
De Soto State Park – Alabama
Stone Mountain – Georgia
Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield – Georgia
Martin Luther King Historic Park – Georgia
Trail of Tears – Tennessee
Obed Wild & Scenic River - Tennessee
I had two big take-aways for this trip:
When taking a solo camping road trip, its best to do it BEFORE the clocks are turned back for the year. During this trip, the sun set exceedingly early – 5:30 in the central time zone!! Once the sun set and I was at my campsite, there wasn’t much to do.
When in a city where you know someone – even if its someone you haven’t seen for years, reach out to them and meet up for a short hike, or lunch or something. It is great to reconnect with people!
